What Would Losing a Pet Feel Like?

Dogs have shorter lives than humans. If you decide to get a pet, you will most likely go through the painful experience of losing a pet. Although dogs are different from people, losing a beloved pet can cause similar amount of pain and grief as when you lose a loved one. Pet loss can be especially painful when you’ve had the dog ever since it was a pup. The grief caused by the loss of a pet can also vary in magnitude. Some dogs can die a natural death, which would be a less traumatic loss than losing a pet in an accident or the sudden death of a pet due to a fast-killing disease. Pet loss caused by diseases that act slow can also cause heavy feelings of distress in the pet owner who is forced to witness the dog’s suffering and pain while struggling to help the pet get treated. In the case of diseases, sometimes, the dog owner is able to undergo a processing period, during which he begins to accept the loss of a pet as the disease progresses. There are also cases, however, when the dog undergoes a long stream of treatments with the hopes of getting cured of a particular disease, only to still die of the disease in the end. Such situations can also be very striking and painful for the pet owner who tried his best to get his pet treated. In this way, grief due to pet loss can vary in degree, but in general, the loss of a pet is not to be taken lightly.

Handling Your Grief Over Losing A Pet

Not everyone can understand the pain of losing a pet. People who do not own dogs will be especially unsympathetic. Grieving a pet is just like grieving over any form of a loved one. If possible, when you are grieving a pet, try to avoid people who won’t understand the pain you are going through. This might just give you feelings that no one understands you at all. In some cases, you may also be driven to think that what you just went through is not a big deal, and this can make you feel worse. If you’ve suffered the loss of a pet, the best way to handle your grief is to give yourself time to take it in. Some routines in your life will definitely be changed, and the feeling inside your home may lose the life and cheerfulness provided by the dog. Don’t force yourself to just accpet the changes. Try to ease yourself into the unfamiliar situation of not having your dog with you. Also, it would be a good idea to have a good cry. That can help you release feelings of pain and grief, and will do you much good.

Getting a New Pet

Most importantly, don’t go out and get a new pet immediately. Some grieving dog owners may feel tempted to get a new pet as soon as the old one dies to avoid feelings of loneliness and grief. If you do this, you are not really getting a new pet. You are simply looking for a replacement pet. You might then be frustrated when you find differences between your new dog and your old one. Wait some time before you go out to get a new dog. By then, you’ll be ready to start anew, and this time, it will be with an entirely brand new dog.

It’s a good to have pets in your house especially an animal lover could go out of the way to get all kinds of pets even though at times keeping pets at home can be very tedious, yet animal lovers do so Pet animals needs to be fed timely, have them walk outdoors, visiting a vet regularly; giving them some basic training requires lot of efforts and time Having pet is a demanding job compared to have fishes

if you have an aquarium, where you live, it will brighten up your home It is actually quite a task to keep a pair of dogs as a pet at one given point of time Pet lovers are opting for fish aquarium rather than choosing some other pet which is arduous in managing Though kids are more interested in getting a pet dog or cat and fish aquarium might not be on top of their lists, but managing fishes is easier than per animals

Now that we have decided to have a fish aquarium we need to know little about the know-how of the same This thought may be just at the beginning though . Do not worry you will eventually learn, while selecting a fish aquarium you start your task by looking out for its supplies It I important to know what kind of supplies are available for the maintenance of fish at home. There is practically everything about fish , and their supplies , available on the net.

One can find wide range of information about various categories on internet and for your fish supplies you’ll be able to extract info easily The detailed information about competitive sourcing and prices of various supplies, how they have to be used, how the fish have to be fed and the frequency, and about overall maintenance off the fish. There are several pet supplies which are into this business and now a day dealing things online You will be save d of the trouble to go all the way hunting and then buying and brining the good back home. Had you to go out looking for stuff that is right for you , maybe you would have spent the entire day and still land up with unsatisfactory goods.

Almost everything to do with fish and fish goodies can be found on net Various websites held out classified who are keeping second hand aquarium supplies for sale, browsing some of the websites you’ll be getting a good bargain These websites offers to put classified adverts for both the parties buyers and sellers, the person who needs to sell his/her livestock can post it on and get a good response Go shopping online for your aquarium supplies and bring home the beauties of underwater world

Find more info on aquarium supplies and aquarium classifieds.

What is a pet store that will hire at 16 and actually sells pets. not just supplies?

i’m looking for a job with animals and i already work at a dog kennel but i want to work in a store because the kennel job is only seasonal, so what is a pet store that just doesn’t strictly sell supplies but sells pets also.
=]
thanks in advance.

Answer
You’ll need to go through your local yellow pages and find a smaller, mom & pop type operation. Often time, the big chains like PetSmart and Petco won’t hire under 18 because of liability issues. Start shopping there frequently and let them get to know you. At the same time, find out as much as you can about them. If they buy the pets that they sell from commercial breeding operations, you really don’t want to work there. Puppy mills = yuck!

Another option that you might consider is an apprenticeship with a groomer or a trainer. You wouldn’t be paid much (or at all) at first, but you would be working with animals, and learning a valuable trade.

Sadly enought, reventable accidents are also a leading cause of early death for many dogs. Veternarians often see dogs injured as the resutl off car accidents, from dogfights, or who suffer from accidental poisonings.

While accidents sometimes happen no matter how many precautions are taken, there are things you can do to help keep your dog as safe as possible.

Protect Your Dog From Vehicular Accidents And Dog Fights

Never let your dog outside unaccompanied. Try to keep your dog in a fenced-in yard. Reduce the possibility of dogfights by introducing your dog slowly to other dogs. Or, better yet, keep other dogs away from your dog. Most dogfights occur when dogs are outside by themselves. Also, be sure your dog cannot run out of the house or escape from your yard. If you live in an area where there are any vehicles – even golf carts or mopeds – watch the dog closely. And when you walk your dog, make sure it is on a secure leash.

Dangerous dogfights can also occur when there are multiple dogs in the same household. If you own more than one dog, and they continue to fight, you may need to permanently separate them.

Train Your Dog To Respond To Your Commands

A big part of keeping your dog safe involves training, so your dog will respond to your voice in any situation. You may find you need an obedience training class to achieve this. You will also need to practive obedience training througout your dog’s lifetime.

The reason for this obedience training is that one day your dog might dash outside without a leash, and you would be able to quickly call it back before it gets into a fight or suffers an accident. Training your dog can save its life. And working with it will also help you and your dog develop a stronger bond.

Protect Your Dog From Accidental Poisoning

Every year, dogs around the world die from accidental poisoning. These are often caused by rodent poisons that have been placed around the home or in outside areas where a dog can access them. While your veternarian may be able to successfully treat one of these poisonings, they can still lead to permanent organ damage. If you use any poisonous products around your home, make sure your dog will not be able to reach them.

Poisoning accidents can also occur from products around the home that are deadly, but do not have a bad taste or smell. Your dog might ingest one of these out of curiosity, thirst, or hunger.

One example of a dangerous household product that can fatally poison dogs is anti-freeze. While it is a hazardous chemical, it actually has a slightly sweet taste that can appeal to both dogs and cats. Make sure there is no spilled anti-freeze around your home or in your neighborhood. Also, be aware of any other products in or around your home that could harm your dog.

Other more common accidental poisonings occur when ogs eat prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs. These drugs may taste horrible to us, but for some reason, dogs seem to find pills particularly appetizing. You may not think that your dog wouldn’t be tempted to eat a bottle of xanax, but this does happen.

In fact, some pet owners recently discovered that their dogs were obsessed with getting into anti-depressant medications. While some of these stories are amusing, the consequences that dogs can suffer from overdosing on these drugs are serious. Always keep over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications far out of reach of your dog.

Microchip Your Dog

Chipping your dog is one of the most proactive steps you can take to keep your dog safe and healthy. If, at some time, you and your dog become separated, a microchip can help you reunite with your dog. If your dog becomes lost there is always the possibility that another person might adopt it. A lost dog can also suffer from starvation, get in fights with other animals, or be run over by a car.

When you can’t claim your dog

Dogs that are lost are frequently picked up and brought to humane animal shelters. But if the dog is not claimed or adopted within a specified amount of time, it will most likely be euthanized.

However, if your dog does become lost and ends up in an animal shelter, a microchip will quickly identify
it, removing any chance that it is euthanized.

A microchip will also help to identify your dog if you are separated from it in an emergency. Mandatory evacuations caused by fires, floods, and storms are notorious for separating dogs and their frantic owners. So if you do become separated from your dog in an emergency, a microchip can bring the two of you back together.

Do you buy pet health insurance?

I found it easier to pay the premiums each month than have another $600.00 vet bill like when our Duncan ran out of the house one freezing, stormy night and came home sick with pnemonia. The bad side is it doesnt cover yearly shots, deworming or the like.

Answer
we have 3 dogs and 3 cats, yes insurance costs a lot each month. but try to think of it as saving in a bank account.

you may have to pay for shots etc, but when your pets develope chronic illnesses that need meds for the rest of their lives, you will appreciate it

When you have a pet such as a dog you have certain responsibilities in terms of ensuring that the dog stays healthy. It is surprising how quickly vet bills can add up these days, with some operations in particular costing thousands. With pet insurance you can relieve yourself of a lot of pressure, especially if your dog develops an ongoing illness. Lifetime dog insurance will cover your dog for its entire life. Obviously you will need to pay for whatever type of dog insurance you have, but a good level of cover can save you a lot of money in the long run.

What Kind Of Things Will Be Covered?

You will find with lifetime pet cover, or any other type, that not everything is protected. If there is an illness or injury that is pre-existing the policy will not cover it. In other words, if your pet already has a condition or an illness at the time you take out the policy, you will not be able to claim for costs related to that. This is normal with any type of insurance. Getting your pet spayed or neutered will not be covered unless having this procedure done is required for health reasons.

There will usually be a yearly maximum that you can claim on lifetime pet insurance. If your dog has an on-going illness such as arthritis or diabetes there will be a limit on how much the insurer will pay out in one year, but the level of cover stars again the next year. With more basic annual policies, you can only claim until the end of the one year term, then nothing more.

Most illness will be covered with lifetime dog insurance although the insurance company will pay only a set amount per year for each illness, depending on the level of cover you take out.

Types Of Policies

You can buy a pet policy that lasts a year, per condition or lifetime dog insurance. With yearly insurance there will be a set amount for each illness your dog may have. Once that amount is reached, you will be responsible for the rest of the money for the life of your pet.

With per condition insurance there will be an annual limit for the condition that it is covering. Each year it will renew itself for that condition until you reach the limit. This type of insurance only covers that one condition. If another problem arises your pet will not be covered.

Lifetime dog insurance will cover nearly any illness your dog has. It will have a yearly limit for each condition, but it renews itself every year. Your dog will be covered for his entire life and he will be covered for every illness. This includes on-going or recurring problems.

Buying Lifetime Pet Policies

As with anything else, you ought to shop around when purchasing pet insurance. Every company has different options and corresponding prices. Shopping online is probably the quickest and easiest way to buy your policy. You are able to see what it covered and get quotes quickly.

Prices for lifetime dog insurance will vary depending on the type of dog you have. Certain breeds of dogs are more prone to illness than other dogs. Remember to take this into consideration when shopping for the right policy for you and your pet.

You can find out more about quotes for %26lt;a href=’http://www.dog-insurance-uk.net/lifetime-dog-insurance.html’%26gt;lifetime dog insurance%26lt;/a%26gt; on the author’s %26lt;a href=’http://www.dog-insurance-uk.net/’%26gt;Dog Insurance UK%26lt;/a%26gt; website. K D Garrow has various websites offering information about insurance, including one providing advice on %26lt;a href=’http://www.public-liability-quotes.co.uk/’%26gt;public liability quotes%26lt;/a%26gt;.

Is it safe to adopt a pet that was rescued from a puppy mill?

Is it safe to adopt a pet that was rescued from a puppy mill or will the puppy most likely have some sort of illness or disease that would end up costing a lot of money to treat?

Answer
Well it depends, all animals that are rescued are not guaranteed say like in an SPCA or a rescue group only because they take the dogs in so they are not killed.
Most of your puppy mill dogs are bred for the money and not for the long life of an animal but sometimes you can get lucky and get one that will live along time and not cost too much.
But your chances are very slim as these puppy mills only breed for money and not for the quality the dog produces.
That is why when you buy from a breeder, you get a good breed and they take the dog back if any thing genetically is wrong with the dog
Dogs from good breeders have a guarantee almost up to 2 years or some with a life time guarantee and return policy because they know the breed and the back round of the dogs they breed.
Do you are taking a risk or chance if you buy from a puppy mill because you may or may not get a life long care free dog.
If it were me, I would not buy them as they are bred over and over and over till they can no longer breed so the chances of a good dog having no problems are very slim

Pet grooming is something that most pet owners have neglected. Because most pet owners treat their pets like their own family members, it is only fitting that they too – regardless of size, breed, age, or coat type – get the pampering they deserve. And there are various ways to deal with pet grooming, whether you do it yourself or hire a professional to do it for you.

Many pet owners overlook this tiny detail but pets actually have the same, if not more, grooming needs as we humans do. Taking good care of your pets will not only improve your pets’ physical well-being, but it will also benefit you in the long run. Which means that your pet will have lesser chances of acquiring diseases or becoming ill, and you will have saved up a great amount of money and time?

In terms of pet grooming, you can opt to do it on your own but hiring a professional service is always the better option if you have the means because they are tailored to do this. Also, you can be assured that your pet is in good hands and you will also be able to identify any problems that have gone unnoticed.

Among the most common pet grooming services are nail trimming, ear cleaning, hair brushing or hair removal, haircut, tooth brushing, and many other specialized pet grooming services. If let’s say you have a pet dog, it is important to trim their nails because it may split or break on its own, or could hurt the dog’s tender pad. Also, it could damage your home furniture’s or hurt you when your dog tries to play around with you.

When it comes to ear cleaning, it is important for the same reasons it is for humans – to prevent infection, possible infestation of parasite, as well as buildup of excessive earwax. All the other pet grooming services like hair removal, haircut, or shampooing are all aimed at keeping your pet’s skin and fur healthy and clean at all times. Not only does it help reduce discomfort on the pet’s part, it also helps prevent painful matting.

Just like toothbrush does for humans, regularly brushing your pet’s teeth helps prevent tartar and maintains their fresh breath. As much as there are specialized shampoos and soaps available in the market today, several toothbrush and toothpaste products available out there that is specially designed for your pets.

Enlisting a professional pet grooming service is definitely an advantage because they have been tailored to take care of your pets, in a professional way. Meanwhile, they have been certified in terms of customer care and quality of service, so you can be assured that your pets are in safe hands when you render them to their care. However, how you take care and look after your pets will still largely determine their welfare because after all they are your responsibility.

Pet grooming must be attended on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy and great looking disposition for your pets. But probably the most obvious reason for making sure that your pets are well-groomed and clean at all times is that you constantly interact with them. Whatever germs they have because you have failed to take good care of them can be easily transmitted to the owner. Now, there can’t be any more obvious reason for making pet grooming a priority now.

My pet incurred some emergency medical charges. What in his medical file am I legally responsible to pay for?

Am I only responsible for what is written in the medical file (procedures done, etc.) or can items that are not written in the file and found at a later date be chargeable to me?

Answer
What sort of emergency medical procedures were needed & were they the result of your pet (eg: unexected complications) or the veterinary practitioners (eg: they made a mistake during an operation [shudder]). If the first then I would say that you’ll probably have to pay. If the latter then you shouldn’t be responsible for it.

This is just an educated guess on my part. Legal advice would be a good idea, also pet insurance for next time.

If your dog bites, you have a problem, because they are a risk not only to humans but to other dogs as well. You must seriously address your dog’s biting behavior in order to prevent it from inflicting injury to others.

How to Stop Dogs from Biting as Puppies

Biting can already be identified during the dog’s early age. Puppies must be subjected to a biting inhibition training as early as six weeks of age if it manifests a biting pattern.
Puppies are instinctively taught by their mothers to refrain from biting, but should your puppy show signs of this behavior, you can retrain it to make it learn the lesson completely.

A lot of people ignore a puppy’s biting on the assumption that it is just ‘child’s play.’ You have to realize that a puppy’s biting is not a game but the puppy’s aggressive display to impose dominance. This normally happens in a pack or a litter when puppies try to assert their position, using its teeth to threaten its rivals. Since puppies already display this behavior, they should be prevented from doing it while they are yet puppies.

Puppy biting can be stopped in a number of ways. The method that most trainers do is they mimic natural litter activity. By giving the puppy a light pinch on the neck and mimicking a whining cry when it bites back is a good biting inhibition training for your puppy. Another way to demonstrate to the puppy that biting is prohibited is done by replacing your hand with a substitute every time your puppy bites. After a few repetitions, your puppy should have learned its lessons, but if its biting continues, you should refer the matter to an obedience school or a trainer.

How to Stop Dogs from Biting at One Year

When you tolerate a biting or nipping puppy and allow it to show dominance, it will continue with its biting play even at one year of age. If your dog manifests this kind of behavior, you should immediately stop playing physical or any dominance-related games with your dog.

You should establish limitations to your dog’s territorial boundaries in your house. You can put your puppy through crate training if the situation warrants so, or you can enroll it in reliable obedience training in order to change its behavior.

How to Stop Dogs from Biting as they Age

Persistent biting behavior in dogs will surely worsen as they mature into adulthood. This behavior makes the dog prone to bite its owner to assert its dominance as the leader of the pack.

A dog that keeps on biting even at the age of one year must be referred to an expert. A mature dog that bites is a risk. You cannot discount its tendency to attack.

In order to ensure that your puppy won’t bite as an adult, you see to it that they are not subjected to aggression or threat. Most mature dogs that are aggressive were victims of aggression themselves when they were young. Observe your puppy keenly and be able to pinpoint the behavior in order to arrest them at once and to prevent it from becoming a major issue later in your dog’s life.

Pet carriers vs. big totes?

My friend’s b-day is coming up and she loves I Love Lucy and she loves her little chihuahua. I wanted to get her an I Love Lucy pet carrier, but I don’t think it exists, so can you use a tote for the same purpose? I know they’re not the same, but is it doable? Or does anyone have any other ideas for a gift?
I was going to get her a purse, but she already has a designer purse that I doubt she will stop carrying for I Love Lucy. Maybe something else like a jewelry box or makeup bag? I have no clue…

Answer
I’ve carried my chihuahua in my big tote before but he doesn’t really like it, and it’s not very safe/secure. You def. can’t travel with it. Why don’t you just get her a cute I Love Lucy purse that doesn’t double as a dog bag?

Long journey will be very tiring day for you and even for your pet. You or your pet might suffer car sickness that is very annoying. In this matter, car sickness is caused be several things including confinement, car motion, first-time ride or other inconvenience.

As stated before, can sickness can be suffered by both human and animal. Thus, you should do preparation when you are about to take your pet for long journey by car. You can do the preparation long day before you have a journey. So, your pet will not suffer car sickness during the journey.

As the beginning, you can start it by sitting your pet beside you inside the car. You can do it with the engine off. This is done in order to get him/her used to the situation of the car. In this matter, you have to make sure that your pet feels comfort. You can play with him/her so that he/she will feel comfort inside the car.

Get out of the vehicle after some times and play outside the car. You can play with your pet outside the car. In this case, you have to make sure that the distance you take is comfortable for you and your pet. This is done in order to make your pet recognizes your car and feels comfort with it. You can take closer distance each day so that your pet will get used to with your vehicle.

When your pet feels comfort being inside and outside the car, you can take him/her driving around. You can take your pet for longer distance each day as another preparation of your long journey. By doing those preparations, your pet will be away from suffering car sickness. As the result, your journey will be very fun since you can take your pet with you.

You will do many things for your pet including taking him/her to the veterinarian. You will find that a veterinarian has veterinary medical equipment to treat his/her animal patients. One of equipment used is portable oxygen tank

When you get a pet home, there are some basic things that you will need and they come under pet supplies. Some of the important pet supplies include pet food, eating bowls, harnesses and pet bed among many others.

One of the important things that you need to consider while buying a pet bed is the way your dog or cat or any other pet sleeps. A pet bed is mostly required for dogs and cats only although you can buy it for rabbits and some of the other smaller pets too.

The second most important thing to understand is that a pet bed will be different for a dog and different for a cat. Normally, what you use for your dog will not be used for your cat. You can find pet beds at various stores offering other pet supplies and even online. One of the good things is that you will find a lot of variety when it comes to pet beds including the popular heated beds. The heated beds have grown in popularity because of the fact that they have a heating element that will keep the bed warm in the winters and will be comfortable and relaxing for your pet. You can choose from a heated orthopedic bed to a heated thermo pet bed. Most of the pet beds are available in three sizes, which are:

· Small: 19′x24′ – The small pet bed can take weights of up to 20lbs · Medium: 26′x29′ – The medium pet bed can take weights of up to 40lbs · Large: 36×38′ – The large pet bed can take weights of up to 60lbs

Another type of popular pet bed found in pet supplies is the round bed. This is a perfect bed for dogs that like to cuddle up when they sleep and for cats that love to sleep with their legs thrown apart. This pet bed is available in three sizes for dogs and they are:

· Medium: 36 inches – The medium pet bed can take weights of up to 50lbs · Large: 42 inches – The large pet bed can take weights of up to 80lbs · Extra Large: 52 inches – The extra large pet bed can take weights of up to 140lbs

You can also get these beds in different combinations of colour and design like blue polyester suede that will look neat and even go with the overall décor of your home. The important aspects that needs to be considered while buying a pet bed include the size of your pet, the amount of space in the room, the number of pet you have, their weights, if you need separate pet beds or a single one, the colours, do you need a simple pet bed or a heated bed etc.
When you have decided on your pet bed the next thing will be to consider what other pet supplies you will require. What do I need? These items will vary depending on your pet; cat, dog or rabbit, all of which will each have its own requirements. The most important thing of your pet supplies will be food; a pet won’t last very long without it. Once you have selected your food then there will be all the sundries that we spoil our pets with, like collars, lead, pet beds and clothes.

If you need further information on finding the right pet bed visit our on line store. You will also find a large range of pet supplies which include dog collars, cat litter, dog clothes and many more for all pets.
