Pet insurance has become an integral part of a pet lover’s world. This is because pet insurance takes care of the medical and routine expenses like checkups and vaccinations depending on the policy you have selected. Though just a couple of decades old in the United States, pet insurance is fast gaining importance due to the high cost of living and the rising cost of medical bills.

There are plenty of pet insurance companies who offer coverage to your pets for various medical emergencies. As a pet owner it is important that you select the right insurance policy to make the most of it.

The top 10 things you should be looking at before buying pet insurance are:

1. Check for type of coverage you seek – Some companies provide for accident plans, other for illness and high end coverage for surgeries. The premiums vary for all. So select one or a combination which covers the nature of your pet the closest.

2. Budget – You should have a premium figure in mind which you can pay for the insurance policy. There are many plans in the market to suit all budget types. You will not only have to know the monthly amount you can put aside for your pet but also the long term consequences of such investments. Paying low premiums may at times leave you out of cover for a large amount of incidents and make your policy redundant.

3. Select from multiple options – Carefully search the market for the best pet insurance deal for your pet. Look at all the policies that are on offer and select the one which is most suited for your pet. You know the peculiarities of your pet, so you should be the one to decide which insurer is best. Do not get carried away by sales talk.

4. Check for renewal terms – Some pet insurance companies treat an illness in a year and then classify the same as pre existing when the policy comes up for renewal. This means that pre existing conditions will not be covered as part of claims and you will not be getting any insurance benefit on it the time your pet contacts that illness again. So beware.

5. Insurer’s track record –Select an insurer with a proven track record of insuring pets. Check for any customer testimonials – positive and negative to decide. Read up on the insurance provider’s certifications and credentials before you commit to any pet policy for your precious pet.

6. Scope of insurance coverage – Some pet insurers want you to visit the vet who is in their network. This may not be feasible for you for various reasons. So check if your pet insurance plan is good enough to use at the vet you prefer to take your pet to.

7. The age at which you can insure your pet – Some insurance companies charge very high premiums for older pets and also do not cover many of the illnesses that you’re pet may have at that age. So it will be wise to check up on the pet insurance policy if you have an older pet.

Owning a pet is one of the most common features that can be seen in almost all our households. And for most pet owners pets are a part of their family. But at the same time it has become one of the most expensive affairs. It is because of the treatment or the care they may need during their lifetime. Apart from the day-to-day costs of feeding and keeping your pet in good condition, there are many unplanned costs that include vets’ fees during operations and accidents, which you might find difficult to cover. Because of this, it’s a good idea to buy a pet health insurance policy which will protect both you and your pet. Pet health care insurance is a policy where the insurer will pay you for the covered costs of the treatment of your pets and in the return you have to shell out a certain sum of premium to the insurer at regular intervals.

There are different insurance companies that offer various health insurance policies and you can opt for the best policy that will suit your needs and family status. There are different health insurance plans for cats, for dogs and for your other pets. Policies vary from one company to other company.

And also the rate of premiums varies from company to company. Usually the policies under veterinary pet health insurance are cheaper for dogs and cats but little higher for other pets such as horses, rabbits etc. So before handing over your premiums to an insurer who provides pet health insurance, it is important for you to do a detailed research of all these information. Hence we suggest you to shop around a little. Now with online facilities on pet health insurance in UK it is easier to search and shop.

It is imperative to keep in mind that most pet care health insurances available in the market do not pay for routine check ups like worming, flea control nor is it likely to cover the pre-existing medical conditions that your pet has been suffering.

Apart from that, for some diseases and treatments that may need a long time, say more than a year, it is necessary to renew the policy at the end of the year. If not, you will loose your claim and the policy may end all together. The best time to buy a pet health insurance for your pet is when it is little, say for instance, 8 weeks old, because it is difficult to get maximum cover at the middle age. Thus according to the pets you own its high time for you to buy a dogs health insurance or cat health insurance or any other pet insurance as soon as possible.

does anyone recommend pet health insurance?

which is a good provider and what’s a good plan? what does it cover? does it pay for meds and vaccinations? how much is it per month? do you get good service? how many vets accept it?

i’d find any information you could give me helpful. thank you so much!

Answer
I have Trupanion for my dog and I think its totally worth it. All pet insurance in the U.S. should be “accepted” by all vets. This is because you pay for the vet bill and then get reimbursed by the insurance company. Though some pet insurance plans don’t cover emergency vet or specialists (I know Trupanion does though).

I pay about $24 a month but the cost depends on how big of a deductible you choose, how old your pet is, etc.

What it covers: all diagnostic tests, surgeries, medications for accidents and illnesses that are not preexisting.

I’d suggest you don’t get an insurance that covers routine care like check-ups because you are paying more for the insurance company to cover this than if you just paid directly to the vet.

I think pet insurance is great, especially for younger pets that have a whole lifetime of potential accidents and sickness ahead of them!

1. The main reason for a cheap dog policy is it is very cheap since it covers less. Let’s get that out of the way from the beginning. For example, some money-saving policies intended to cover a dog during the first 10 years of his life. This age limit may well be hidden in the fine print. The insurer knows that there are health problems with older animals. Vet bills are inevitable and costly, especially in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic or severe. Very low premiums charged to pet insurance that ends when a dog is 10 years old (or less for certain races) simply reflects that the policy is not in force when the majority of ‘end of life’ claims occur.

2. Veterinary fees, how much to insure? Most people probably think the 2.500 pounds to cover veterinary fees is more than enough. Unfortunately, this is often insufficient, and it is certainly more likely to be in more than 10 years, when the claims are almost inevitable. A significant number now are limited to 4.000 pounds has been taken as a reference point for this guide.

3. Some providers keep your premiums low, but to offset this by increasing dramatically over the dog’s veterinary fees as the insured ages. Often, this also takes the form of a percentage contribution to the cost of treatment – usually 20%, but some are higher. This would mean a £ 2,000 bill be split with the veterinary policyholder paying £ 400 a claim in addition to your policy excess, say another £ 90. In this case, the insurance company only paid £ 1.510. For retirees or others on fixed incomes, the 490 pounds he would soon have to find would be a disaster. Thus, some buyers prefer to pay more premiums for a policy that does not change and always has the same excess over the life of your animal.

4. As premiums rise, the policy terms and conditions may change as the insured animal is older. The franchise has already been mentioned. Standard monthly payment policies generally exclude any condition for which a claim has already been done. Eczema is a good example of a condition that can affect a dog for many years, covered only life would still enable the policyholder to continue claiming for him after his next renewal of the policy, following initial demand. Most good pet providers offer a choice of life cover. All around 35% more loads for this than standard monthly coverage.

5. Premiums rise reflecting the increased cost of credit as well as the increased likelihood of a claim occurring. Veterinary fees have increased well above the inflation rate simply reflects the wide range of treatments available. The quality of the offer may be comparable to a private hospital with prices to match. Moreover, as a dog gets older, premiums will rise.

6. Be aware of on-line discounts and special premiums low for puppies. These discounts apply only during the first year of insurance and will be full price next year and subsequent years. To check the true value, we recommend several online dating, this identifies any provider try to attract companies front-load discounts. The cheapest is not always the best value over time, so spent a few minutes comparing prices, it can be very useful.

7. Pay for the brand. Many brands, especially supermarkets and banks offer pet insurance, but their coverage is outsourced to specialist suppliers. The brand will have a significant percentage, as they spend heavily on marketing the product. Provide access to a large number of loyal customers and charge for the privilege.

8. Beware of race-specific restrictions, known problems for certain breeds such as the displacement of the hip with German shepherds and the short life of many larger dogs will be reflected in the political conditions. Subscribers will be more specific from the outset with respect to these restrictions, it is crucial to understand. Fundamentally, insurance is only offered to cover unexpected expenses and payments not inevitable inherent disorders. In addition, most policies do not cover teeth or gum disease, so never let a dog develop a sweet tooth.

Hello. I am a 22 year old, non stressed, male college student. I am a non smoker and have normal eating habits and maintain a normal bmi. It felt almost like sinus pressure in the fact that it was more prominent in the sinus regions and behind the eyes. It was also only powerful in the morning and hurt with rapid head or eye movement. It was more an annoyance then anything. ibprofien and acetaminophen would alleviate the pain but it still continued to come back every morning like clockwork.

I went to see a doctor where I told him it was only a sinus like headache but without the other symptoms of a sinus infection and that it had continued every morning for a week. Since I had only one symptom and headaches could be caused by any number of things he believed it might be sinus related or viral so he prescribed a one week treatment of antibiotics and musinex D since I always have mucus buildup in my nose due to pet allergies.

It has now been one week and still no progress but now there are more complications. The pain is now completely isolated behind my eyes and hurts slightly upon blinking and hurts quite a bit when I move my eyes around the socket to focus on something rather than moving my head. Still very strong in the morning after rest.

More importantly I have developed a very acute pain behind my left ear on the mastoid process. I started to feel the tension 2 days ago and tried to massage it out. This only aggravated the region and now it emits constant pain. It is painful to the touch and and isolated to about a half an inch diameter right ontop of the mastoid process bone.

Imagine that you get hit very hard with something in the back of your head and a bump forms along with a constant pain. If I wouldnt have known better I would have thought was the cause but there are no signs of bruising. I compared the left to the right regions but I can’t feel much a difference. I will say that the left does feel a bit harder and there might be a bit of a bump compared to the left but its hard for me to tell such a minute comparison. I was doing crunches prior to the development so I thought it might be strain related but in that case the Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) would also show the same symptoms not just the mastoid so I ruled that out.

My guess is that it is a swollen lymph node as many have reported the same problems and deemed it a swollen glad. What I dont understand is the constant pressure and pain behind the eyes and why it is re occurring daily. I feel like I know more than the doctors when it comes to this and wish I would have gotten a less generic diagnosis and prescription. Can anyone offer their feedback or suggestions? I am going back to the doctor on tuesday to report the mastoid pain and that the tension behind the eyes is still prominent but more than one opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Nick

When you have a pet such as a dog you have certain responsibilities in terms of ensuring that the dog stays healthy. It is surprising how quickly vet bills can add up these days, with some operations in particular costing thousands. With pet insurance you can relieve yourself of a lot of pressure, especially if your dog develops an ongoing illness. Lifetime dog insurance will cover your dog for its entire life. Obviously you will need to pay for whatever type of dog insurance you have, but a good level of cover can save you a lot of money in the long run.

What Kind Of Things Will Be Covered?

You will find with lifetime pet cover, or any other type, that not everything is protected. If there is an illness or injury that is pre-existing the policy will not cover it. In other words, if your pet already has a condition or an illness at the time you take out the policy, you will not be able to claim for costs related to that. This is normal with any type of insurance. Getting your pet spayed or neutered will not be covered unless having this procedure done is required for health reasons.

There will usually be a yearly maximum that you can claim on lifetime pet insurance. If your dog has an on-going illness such as arthritis or diabetes there will be a limit on how much the insurer will pay out in one year, but the level of cover stars again the next year. With more basic annual policies, you can only claim until the end of the one year term, then nothing more.

Most illness will be covered with lifetime dog insurance although the insurance company will pay only a set amount per year for each illness, depending on the level of cover you take out.

Types Of Policies

You can buy a pet policy that lasts a year, per condition or lifetime dog insurance. With yearly insurance there will be a set amount for each illness your dog may have. Once that amount is reached, you will be responsible for the rest of the money for the life of your pet.

With per condition insurance there will be an annual limit for the condition that it is covering. Each year it will renew itself for that condition until you reach the limit. This type of insurance only covers that one condition. If another problem arises your pet will not be covered.

Lifetime dog insurance will cover nearly any illness your dog has. It will have a yearly limit for each condition, but it renews itself every year. Your dog will be covered for his entire life and he will be covered for every illness. This includes on-going or recurring problems.

Buying Lifetime Pet Policies

As with anything else, you ought to shop around when purchasing pet insurance. Every company has different options and corresponding prices. Shopping online is probably the quickest and easiest way to buy your policy. You are able to see what it covered and get quotes quickly.

Prices for lifetime dog insurance will vary depending on the type of dog you have. Certain breeds of dogs are more prone to illness than other dogs. Remember to take this into consideration when shopping for the right policy for you and your pet.

You can find out more about quotes for %26lt;a href=’http://www.dog-insurance-uk.net/lifetime-dog-insurance.html’%26gt;lifetime dog insurance%26lt;/a%26gt; on the author’s %26lt;a href=’http://www.dog-insurance-uk.net/’%26gt;Dog Insurance UK%26lt;/a%26gt; website. K D Garrow has various websites offering information about insurance, including one providing advice on %26lt;a href=’http://www.public-liability-quotes.co.uk/’%26gt;public liability quotes%26lt;/a%26gt;.

Is it safe to adopt a pet that was rescued from a puppy mill?

Is it safe to adopt a pet that was rescued from a puppy mill or will the puppy most likely have some sort of illness or disease that would end up costing a lot of money to treat?

Answer
Well it depends, all animals that are rescued are not guaranteed say like in an SPCA or a rescue group only because they take the dogs in so they are not killed.
Most of your puppy mill dogs are bred for the money and not for the long life of an animal but sometimes you can get lucky and get one that will live along time and not cost too much.
But your chances are very slim as these puppy mills only breed for money and not for the quality the dog produces.
That is why when you buy from a breeder, you get a good breed and they take the dog back if any thing genetically is wrong with the dog
Dogs from good breeders have a guarantee almost up to 2 years or some with a life time guarantee and return policy because they know the breed and the back round of the dogs they breed.
Do you are taking a risk or chance if you buy from a puppy mill because you may or may not get a life long care free dog.
If it were me, I would not buy them as they are bred over and over and over till they can no longer breed so the chances of a good dog having no problems are very slim

We all take out insurance to cover those bad days, or just to take precautions against illness, or to gain tax breaks. By far the most important ones are the car insurance and the medical insurance.

Medical insurance is necessary because medical care is expensive, God forbid, if someone were to fall sick, and require even a day or two’s hospitalisation. The bills are heavy, and it drains your pocket.

That’s precisely why Governments all over the world encourage you to take insurance against every possible eventuality, but most put down their foot on compulsory medical insurance. And they provide you a nice tax break.

But for your pet? Yes, you bet it is important. Your pet is also a member of your family. That also requires medical attention. It is not as if nature has made your pet, or for that matter, any living thing, immune to any disease. Your pet is no exception.

You took out medical insurance for your kids, your wife, your parents? Why, they are family. You pet? He’s your best friend, who is always there when you are angry, sorrow, resigned, companion on your walks, and often times, protects you from danger, so why won’t you look after his health.

Just as docs, hospitals and medicines for humans are expensive, so too for the pets. Mind you they too don’t come cheap. It would cost say how much more? 10 dollars to take out one? It’s worth it.

Just one visit to the vet would set you back by more than that. Of course you have to check out with your insurer what costs would be covered such as consultation with the vet, a minor correctional surgery, medicines, etc. Essentially, the same questions that you would ask for human medical insurance.

Insurance is all about’What if’. If that what if happens to your pet, where would you go to get that 100 dollars for treatment, or would you leave him the Pound. You bet you won’t be able to sleep. Even if you steeled yourself, you would feel as if you had lost part of your family. Further the pound is not keeping your pet free. You pay.

We bet that you will be back in the middle ofthe night and take him back home! We have been through it. So just forget, and take out that insurance, and get yourself some peace of mind.

You don’t just walk away on your best friend for a few dollars more !

Shop around. Try your Kennel Club.

You know something. They would have struck a deal with an insurer for a comprehensive policy on which each contributes an amount. That may be cheaper for you as well, and give you better coverage. That’s known as Group Insurance Policy; just the same as you have in your office. The higher the number of insureds, lower the premium. So join, and take the benefit.

So what’s the big deal and what stops you from looking for it ? Check them all out. And do it.

It’s for your best friend, and remember, you are HIS best friend. A friend in need is a friend in deed, Sir!

Flying a pet questions?

I’ve been searching all over online and I was hoping someone who has experience flying dogs nationally might be able to give me some advice.
I’m really nervous about flying my dog with me since I am moving further North (Florida to Wisconsin), and I am flying with United. Now I have seen their pet restrictions and I have a couple questions that I would rather have answered here rather than navigate through a less-than-user-friendly phone menu for an hour and a half. So here are my questions:

1. Is there anything I should know about flying a 1.6 year old Whippet (medium size Greyhound)? She is a long-nosed breed so I have no worries about that and summer weather is pretty much drawing to a close with October here already.

2. What would be considered extreme temperatures for flying a dog?
The time I plan on arriving to the time I my plane leaves from Jax, FL its supposed to be between 76-79 degrees. Then I have a transfer in Chicago O’hare and there its supposed to be around 50-70 degrees. And then my destination which is supposed to be Milwaukee international, the temperature is supposed to be 60-47 degrees Fahrenheit. I do have a hoodie for her (bought at Petsmart) for when it gets too cold.

3. United says “Have a note certifying with a signature the last time (within four hours before bringing your pet to the airport) that your pet was offered food and/or water.” on their website and then includes “Include food and water dishes (both empty), secured inside the kennel and accessible from outside. Pet owners may freeze water in dish before departure.” Is this really necessary since the dog would have eaten at least an hour before flying? Or is it just a preference from the airport?

4. Are vaccination tags necessary when flying your dog or can the vet bill of health say that the dog got her vaccination shots already? If they are required and my dog has already gotten her shots but I misplaced her tags, can I ask my vet to give me a temporary tag for her collar? United doesn’t have anything mentioned on their site about this, so I thought I would ask just in case.

Any other tips or advice I would really appreciate it. This is my first time flying with my dog and I’m just all nerves because I don’t have the money to buy another flight.

Answer
1. AFAIK no. The problems arise with brachycephalic dogs (pugs, bulldogs etc) which have a hard time breathing.

2. The USDA sets temps: 85>45F is range

3. Yes….if UA says do it: do it. They will be very “by the book” and will refuse your pet if they see non-compliance

4. Tags aren’t necessary, but documentation is. Need those rabies vac certs & health cert < 10 days old

What are the ramifications of a child ingesting Advantage flea/tick medication?

Awhile back my son who then was about 18 months got his hands on a tube of Advantage and ingested it. (Yes, I know it was irresponsible of me to leave one way back on the counter when I was using another on my cat.) Afterwards, I called Poison Control which informed me it was not toxic enough to cause any harm. However, I recently heard a report about some of these meds causing negative side-effects like severe skin irritation and neurological disorders on pets. Does anyone have more recent information? Is it still believed to not cause problems?

Answer
The active ingredient in Advantage flee/tick is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Since they’re nervous system is different than ours, it isn’t going to cause that effect in humans. The first link is to the makers of Advantage flea/tick and the second is the material safety data sheet from the makers of imidacloprid.

Why would you want life time pet insurance? Despite what the name suggests you may not want this type of insurance from the beginning of your pet’s life. In this article we’re going to talk about why you might want life time pet insurance and who it’s suitable for.

Certain types of policies are limited by the amount of time a condition can be claimed for. These are usually the cheapest because insurers have a ‘cut off period’ where they can say ‘I’m sorry it has now been x months since you started your claim. You are no longer able to claim for any further bills.’

There is no limit with life time pet insurance (also known as life long pet insurance). However, although this is a great feature, it is not only found in lifetime policies. You may be aware that you can get ‘per condition’ policies, which also have no time limit on how long you can claim for a particular condition. Per condition policies are usually slightly cheaper than lifetime too.

So, what makes life time any different from ‘per condition policies’?

Many of the articles you will read miss this crucially important detail out when they talk about this type of insurance. They will talk about how it covers your pet for life but not much about how. So let me give you some details.

First of all there is still a limit on the amount you can claim. Yes, I’m afraid it’s not totally unlimited, although the limits are usually quite generous. Often you’ll get a massive £4000 difference in cover between a standard limited time policy and a lifetime one. Not only that but (and this is the big difference) lifetime insurance resets the cover amount every year.

So, say you have £7500 veterinary fees cover and you’ve claimed £1000 pounds within a policy year. At the end of that policy year when you come to renew, your cover for vet’s fees will go back to £7500 again. This assumes you stay with the same insurer and renew each year.

Who is Life time Insurance Suitable For?

As with any insurance policies there are a couple of details to note:

1. You may be charged excesses annually if you’re claiming for a condition over several years.

2. Once your pet gets to a specific age, your insurer could ask you to pay a percentage towards the costs you’ve claimed for.

Those are small points but ones you need to know nevertheless.

If you can relate pet insurance to car insurance, then lifetime pet cover is like a comprehensive car policy. Just like car insurance, not everyone will want to have a comprehensive policy. This type of insurance is for those of you who want the greatest peace of mind with the most comprehensive pet insurance you can get.

It is worth mentioning here that even if you want to switch to a life time policy, insurers will still not cover pre-existing conditions. So if you would like the benefits of lifetime pet insurance then it is best to start relatively early on.

To find the best pet insurance, do a pet insurance comparison at Pet Insurance Comparison where you will find the best insurers, their cover and discounts compared. You don’t have to enter any information – you can just compare side-by-side. Do it here: comparison pet insurance

A couple questions about my bunny, health wise, Just a little concerned?

Okay well, my pet bunny hasn’t had many health concerns so far I’ve had him for about 3 months but his previous owners had him for about a year. I don’t really know his medical history or anything. Anyways my question is about his poo, it’s been a bit soft not always but randomly. I feed him regular bunny pellets, he has bunny treats like with seads and corn aswell, he has huge amounts of hay at his disposal, and every know and then I’ll give him some lettuce/carrots/ or apples, depending. And from what I can tell he eats a well balanced diet. So I’m not a hundred percent sure why he has soft stools now. Also just recently he has been pooing and peeing outside of his cage(right outside) which he never did until about 2 weeks ago and I clean his cage about every 3 days so it’d not like it’s filthy or anything. Is he just being a little bugger or is there something I shouldbe looking into. Thanks for any help:)
no the cage is wide open and he never did this before just recently about two weeks he started this. He always goes to the washroom in the same corner of his cage but soemtimes just goes outside of it.

Answer
Lettuce can kill rabbits. They have very poor digestive systems and most lettuces, except romaine, are too gaseous. That’s probably your problem.

Also, there’s a bacteria in most hay that causes that kind of stuff. I treat my rabbits with an antibiodic for it called Albon about every 3-4 months. Its safe for pregnant does and everything. you should look into it, especially if youre feeding hay or the bunny is exposed to the grass and outside.

Pet insurance is designed to make it affordable for any pet owner to provide their dog or cat quality care. With the best possible health and accident care, there are several different pet insurances to choose from. Some just cover accidents, some cover illness, and some cover both. Veterinarian costs have skyrocketed (just like everything else) and pet insurance can give you and Fido a little peace of mind.

In 2008 dog and cat owners shelled out about 23 billion in veterinary care. Pet insurance can help. It really does take the price tag down and ease the pain.

If your dog has a serious accident or illness it can mean thousands of dollars out of your pocket to help them recover. Do you want money to be the deciding factor in whether or not your dog gets the medical treatment they deserve.

As time moves forward we realize that our animal’s health care and choices have improved over time. As pet owners we have more options now than we did even 5 years ago. With acupuncture, implants, chemotherapy and more we need insurance to cover these huge costs. My Old English Bulldog needed to have his tail and part of his spine removed. $2800 dollars before insurance and $800 after. Huge difference.

1. Pet health policies are similar to human insurance policies. They have Annual premiums, deductibles, and various coverage based upon what the owner chooses. Most plans also have co-pays and caps that limit how much will be paid out annually.

2. Some packages are comprehensive, including annual checkups and vaccinations, spaying/neutering, death benefits and even reimbursement for offering a reward for lost pets. Other plans cover only accidents and illness.

3. If your pet has a pre-existing medical condition, make sure this is not excluded from your policy. It doesn’t make sense to buy a policy that won’t pay when you need it.

4. Check to see if your insurer excludes or charges a higher premium for your breed.

5. Review any age limits for coverage. Some insurers start coverage right away, some require the pet to be 8 weeks old. Some don’t cover pets over 8 years old, some have no age limit.

6. If you have more than one pet, ask your insurer if they offer a multiple-pet discount.

7. Make sure you understand what your buying. Some policies cover only accidents, most cover accidents %26 illness, and a few offer comprehensive coverage, including preventive care (checkups, vaccinations, neutering, etc.) along with accident and illness coverage.

8. Check the deductibles, caps on coverage and co-pays. For example, some pet insurers will pay 80% of the costs for treating a pet’s illness, others may pay 100%. Make sure you select an insurer that provides the coverage you need.

9. Approval of pet insurance is almost instant. But on some policies there is a 30 day waiting period. This is usually on the older dogs or cats.

10. With some policies your dog is required to get annual health checkups and vaccines. This keeps your pooch up to par and is usually covered by ‘preventative care’ under your policy.

do questions about pets illness bother anyone except me?

I get angry at pet owners who have seriously ill pet and don’t know when to take them to the vet. like my dog ate rat poison 3 days ago, what should i do? My cat got hit by a car, but is he ok? This really bugs me. Anyone else??

Answer
Yes, it does bug me. If it was something minor, where the pet does not seem to be in pain(minor cuts and abrasions) then fine, come online to ask.

However, there are such things as Emergency clinics, that are Open at all hours of the night. They usually open at the same time the normal vets close. So no matter what time it is, if your pet is in serious pain or ailment, then take it to the vets! No matter where I am, I usually make a point of knowing where all the vet clinics are, and their hours of operation. I also know where the emergency clinic is.

Pet health insurance is considered a necessity by some people and a whim by others. The truth is that in the situation when millions of Americans have no health insurance coverage, it sounds paradoxical that some would go to the length of insuring their pets. Nevertheless, in many cases, pet health insurance makes the only chance for medical treatment and even survival if the animal suffers from some severe problem.

Things have changed a lot in the industry ever since the costs of pet health insurance have stopped being so prohibitive. There are different levels of pet health insurance now available that help people cope with the costs incurred by veterinary treatments, regardless if we are talking about disease conditions, emergency interventions and preventive/routine care. The pet health insurance system is similar to that of human policies: there are deductibles, coverage plans and annual premiums.

With some pet insurance there are age limits both for puppies and older pets. Some have a 8 year limit while others can extend up to 27 years of age. The pet may get coverage after the age of 8 if the animal has had an insurance prior to this age. Animals with terminal diseases and current conditions may not be acceptable for pet health insurance. In certain situations, the insurer may provide coverage if the pet’s condition is controlled and stable.

The owner normally chooses from several packages depending on the type of animal and its specificity. It is based on such considerations as well as on the comprehensiveness of the package that the yearly or monthly premiums are established. Most plans cover annual checkups and vaccinations, preventive medications, spray surgeries and various routine care procedures. There are also pet health insurance policies for illness and accident. There is no waiting period for the coverage in accident claims.

If you can’t afford to pay for pet health insurance, you can take care of your pet’s health by working with humanitarian associations and non-profit organizations that offer health checkups and even emergency assistance. You can make 25% savings on veterinarian services if you work with programs like Pet Assure. They also provide other pet supplies and services for which you can even get a 50% discount. This could be a solution to take into consideration!

Do you know a good pet health insurance?

I recently adopted 2 new puppy sisters from a rescue group. Does anyone know a good Pet Health
Insurance in the USA?
Thank you

Answer
There are many pet insurance companies and, unlike auto insurance, the coverage can be difficult to compare. www.petinsurancereview.com is the leading objective resource to help you through this.

Insurance is for the unexpected. So look for policies that provide you with the most coverage when your pet is sick or injured. Be especially aware of exclusions by reading the policy. And wellness programs are not worth it. They might save you a little each year for vaccinations but then fall far short when your pet is really in need of coverage.

Beyond coverage, what type of service do they provide? Some of the larger, older companies all have commissioned sales people at their call center. They’re going to sell you rather than explaining what is best for you.

Companies that stand out include Healthy Paws Pet Insurance (www.healthypawspetinsurance.com), Embrace (www.embracepetinsurance.com), and Pet Plan (www.gopetplan.com).

Hope this helped and good luck!

It is important to protect your pet. They are more than just an investment, but a member of your family. To do so it is prudent to purchase pet insurance. Buying pet insurance online can be simple and rewarding if a few simple rules and advisements are followed.

One

What kind of animal is your pet? Various websites specialize in insurance for certain pets. Find the website that deals with your pet specifically, whether its dog, cat, or even snake. Be aware that some types of pet insurance require certain discretions, such as a leash on a dog.

Two

How old is your pet? Age matters. Some insurers offer higher rates and lower premiums for pets that are nearing their life expectancy. If this is the case, look around for the insurer with the lowest rates, but make sure they’re not fraudulent. Also, be sure to have the correct measurement of years. Dog years, for example, are not the same as human years.

Three

What do you need? As a vigilante for prices, you need to find the lowest price. However, the top priority when buying online pet insurance should be the coverage you receive. Look carefully at the plan, and determine what your pet needs. If your pet had any or has any existing medical conditions, it is paramount that you report this, or should an accident happen, coverage may be nullified. Also, assess the risk of certain occurrences. If you live in a busy neighborhood, the chances of an accident occurring are generally higher, so make sure your plan accounts for that.

Four

Make payments on time. Payment is extremely important not to forget. Probably, paying pet insurance is not at the top of your to-do list. There are many other charges that need attention when it comes to financial dues. Make regular payments, because forbid something should happen, if you have no made payments you may or may not be eligible for coverage at the time.

Buying pet insurance online can be a deflating experience. To protect your personal or family companion it can be well worth it. Just follow these simple steps. Make sure you get a great price, consider all factors in health and age, and above all; make sure you are well covered!
