Frontline Plus is lousy. And yes, you can give your dog a bath within 48 hours after any topical.

Are you giving anything for Heartworms? I have 9 dogs and have run the gammit on flea/tick and heartworm preventive.

I suggest either Iverhart Max (cheaper) or Heartgard Plus for heartworms. And Comfortis (tablet form) for fleas/ticks.

With 9 dogs I cannot even begin to have a flea infestation.

Also, there is a topical called Revolution that is for heartworms and fleas both. It is just about the same amount you would pay for seperate medications.

I stopped using Revolution because of the adverse reaction to the area where I applied it with most of my dogs.

Fipronilis a topical insecticide and is also known as Frontline, Frontline Top Spot, Frontline Plus. Frontline application kills adult fleas and larvae, ticks, and chewing lice. Fipronil comes in two forms, a liquid that is applied to the skin along the back of dogs and cats, or a spray. Fipronil works by affecting the parasite’s nervous system causing paralysis and death. Frontline plus spreads over the body with the body oils in about 24 hours after application killing 100% of the fleas or ticks within 24-48 hours. Fleas and ticks are generally killed before they bite decreasing the risk of flea allergy dermatitis and tick-borne disease transmission.

Frontline plus for cats/dogs-It’s very important to protect your pet from fleas and ticks, as both are carriers for worms and/or other disease and illness that can potentially cause fatal reactions. Additionally your pet maybe actually allergic to flea bites, which again can cause fatal reactions if not treated with a topical insecticide. Also it is a lot easier to control fleas and ticks from the beginning than it is to get rid of them in the end.

Fipronil collects in the oils of the skin and hair follicles and then is released over time (up to 1 month) from the hair follicles onto the skin and hair. Does anyone know how long after treating dogs with Frontline Plus I can re-treat?

I treated my dogs with Frontline Plus on the 15th of September. I didn’t apply it correctly (lost directions). Instead of putting a spot of Frontline on them I rubbed it in a bit. Anyway they are still jumping with fleas. I am wondering if it is safe to go ahead and retreat or if I should just try using flea shampoo until the correct date. I know the obvious is to call the vet I will do that tomorrow but curosity sake of what other people think as well. Thanks.

Rubbing it in would not affect the way it works, and you should NOT treat them again before the recommended time (one month). You NEED to treat the environment. Fleas lay up to 50 eggs each day, and the eggs fall off the dog and into the environment (their bedding, your carpet, etc.). So you have to treat your HOUSE too or you’ll never get rid of them.

Giving a pet anxiety medication?

USA vs. Australian Frontline Plus and Heartgard?

It’s time for me to buy my pet products for my Yorkie, Duke, again. I have noticed a huge price difference between the USA version and the Australian versions of Frontline Plus and Heartgard. I have also noticed that they contain the same ingredients, but… what’s this about the EPA not approving Australian packaging, but approving the product? I’d like to go ahead and buy from Australia, but I’m hesitant. Anyone have any experience? I know I should buy US to support my own country and such, but I don’t want to pay more for the exact same product just because I live in the US. Also, on the Heartgard… Duke was tested and found negative in December, but I haven’t had him on any preventative product since then… should I get him tested again or will it be okay to go ahead and start? Thanks so much!

I would pluck down the extra money and buy the U.S. version of the Frontline. You could wind up getting into trouble for ordering from Australia. Who knows?
As for the Heartworm test, yes, get your Duke retested that way you know for sure he is negative before giving him the Heartgard.
He could have been infected since his last test.
