Dealing with the death of a pet can be incredibly tough. Many domesticated animals can live for over a decade and during that time become an important part of the family. Equally, you become part of your animal’s pack and they probably show you a lot of love and affection in return for the care you give them.

Whenever we get a new pet, we are aware that the chances are that we will outlive it. However, for most people that doesn’t make the loss any less difficult. Losing a pet, whether suddenly or after a long illness, is like losing a relationship – you might miss the familiarity of having them around, the daily routine you had with them and all their little quirks.

Everyone copes with loss and grief in different ways. One of the most important things is to accept your feelings, whatever they might be, and not to dismiss them with the idea that your pet was just an animal. If it was an integrated part of your family, then it was like a family member. It doesn’t matter that it couldn’t talk to you or communicate in the same way as people; there was still an emotional bond that existed between you.

If you are grieving the loss of a pet, there are a few things you can bear in mind to help yourself through the process. The first is that there is nothing wrong with what you are feeling. If you try and ignore them then you are not going to help yourself. Secondly, there is no right way to mourn the loss of a pet. If you need time alone, that’s what you need. Some people need to talk about it as well, while some people try and busy themselves with other things to cope with the loss. Everyone is different and the right way to mourn your pet depends on whatever is right for you.

There are specialists pet counselors that exist. If you are finding the loss of your pet difficult to cope with, or simply don’t feel like you have anyone to talk to, it might be worth researching whether there is a professional you can talk to in your area. Some people, especially those without pets, may not understand the kind of bond that exists between an animal and its owner. If you want to talk to friends of relatives, try and talk to those you know will understand your loss and will be there to support you.

Guilt is a very common emotional reaction to the death of a loved pet. The questions ‘what if…?’ is one that many people are plagued by. Ultimately, there is nothing you can do to change the situation – you did the best you could at the time and what happened is a sad tragedy.

Losing a pet is incredibly difficult but given time and a proper grieving process, you will be able to move on with fond memories of your pet. Perhaps the time will even come when you will consider getting another pet in the future. For now, however, it is important to listen to your needs and accept your grief.

I have some questions about my pet rock?

I just got a new pet rock yesterday and I was looking for a full care guide ( food, bathing, activities…)

please no mean comments or you will be reported
P.S thx to all the ppl that contributed, my pet rock is very thank ful

Answer
I have pet rocks too. They don’t eat much, but they do enjoy a nice bath now and then. I wash them off to take off the dust and make them look shiny. Then I coat them with just a little cooking oil to keep the calcium deposits from the water from forming on them. For activites, I mostly do arts and crafts with mine. The cooler looking ones, I leave as I found them. The more plain looking ones, I decorate with google eyes, paint, markers etc. They also enjoy being paperweights, door stops and conversation pieces (especially the ones I have done craft projects with. Some of my pet rocks that look like miniature boulders get to play miniatures wargames with me as part of our table top game maps too. I’ve even had a few pet rocks who enjoyed gardening as part of my landscaping. Some even grew their own lichen.

p.s. go easy on the ‘reporting’. There’s enough censorship of Yahoo Answers going on already.

From the wide-ranging available branded watches, Rolex has clearly set its brand name apart from others to become the rather desirable option of most watch connoisseurs, especially the affluent, royal people. To be precise, the designer Rolex watches can be spotted being worn by important celebrities from different walks of life. After all, Rolex watches are well known for their matchless workmanship with swanky styles and designs that are very presumably not found in other watches. Owing to the expensiveness in the price rates of Rolex watches, however, the replica Rolex watches have also started coming to the frontline, basically to cater to the desires and preferences of folks.
Incidentally, Rolex replica watches boast of 3 different types including Swiss, Japanese and Chinese that have been in the limelight over the years and to this day as well. Rolex replica watches are almost tantamount to the original ones in terms of style and design, only there is variation in the cost. Buying Rolex replica watches serve customers in two available different ways as not only they can have the bliss and contentment of owing the product from Rolex but meanwhile the opportunity to save money will also please them extremely.
By the way, Rolex replica watches basically come in 3 different versions including Swiss, Chinese and Japanese, although the Swiss versions is most popular because of its optimum quality and workmanship. One exemplary variety of Rolex replica watches is ‘Submariner’ that has occupied a prominent rank in the industry and it is craved by most average-class watch aficionados. These Submariner Rolex Replica watches fundamentally come in five different grades on basis of quality, as result of which the variation in the cost makes sense.
The Submariner Rolex Replica watches, as it becomes apparent by the name itself, are the extraordinary watches basically designed for divers. However there is a disambiguation regarding the waterproof characteristic, as not every piece conforms to the feature, so it is for the customers that they should go through the aspect on personal basis while buying. Plus, this model variety comes with a Rolex submariner bezel that instrumentally serves the diver letting him/her know what the time duration they are under water.
Incidentally, the Submarine Rolex replica watches come in two dissimilar versions on basis of water depth including 330 feet watch and 2×330 feet watch. Each of the two version is primarily test to give authentic service. The Rolex replica watches are just tantamount to the original Rolex versions when it comes to looks, although the functionality may be different to some extent.
All in all, the Submarine Rolex replica watches are the available gadgets and a perfect choice for the people looking to get their hands on branded watch but at the same time are concerned for expenditure.

Can I use a reduced portion of the Frontline Plus for Large Dogs on my small dogs?

I had two 13 year old dogs. Both in the 100 lb range. In the last couple of weeks I have had to have both of them put down. Can I use the Frontline Plus for large dogs in a reduced amount for my 25 lb dog?

Answer
Please don’t… the chances of you correctly applying the correct amount and concentration of Frontline to your smaller dogs are highly unlikely. I recommend you purchase the correct dosage for all your babies. If the wrong amount is applied your dog can develop skin issues and/or there wont be enough to protect your dogs.

At our clinic we will exchange unopened applications of Frontline, especially in your situation of having to sadly put your two dogs down. Try to see if you can get a rfund/exchange. Hope this helps!

Having a sick animal can be just as nerve-racking for the owner as it is for the pet. The first signs of illness can be frustrating because it isn’t like you can just ask your pet what hurts or how they feel. Even after they have been diagnosed by the vet and put on a medication regiment, administering that medication can be stressful for both the pet and the owner.

It can get even more complicated when you start to consider all the different types of pet medications and all the different ways they can be given. Luckily, there are a few tricks of the trade so that you can get your pets the medicine they need as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Sneaking it in

If your pet is on a medication that can be taken with food then you are in luck. In most cases, sneaking your pet’s medication in with a little treat is the easiest way to get them to take it.

Say, for example, your dog is on a separation anxiety medication like clomipramine. This medication can be administered with food, but not with cheese, which is usually a really easy food to hide a pill in. In the case of clomipramine you might just coat it with some peanut butter and wrap it in a little bit of bread. Most dogs will just think it is a treat and gobble it right up.

Make sure that they don’t just eat the good stuff and spit the pill back out though. Sometimes this may take a few attempts.

Or maybe your cat has bad allergies and has been prescribed an allergy medication like clemastine. Try wrapping this up in a little bit of cheese and feeding it to your cat. You don’t want to use a cheese that is too hard or too soft. It should preferably be something that you can wrap around the pill and make it into a bite size morsel. Since cats are a lot smaller than dogs, the pills usually correspond size-wise. This makes things a lot easier.

Forcing it Down

Sometimes either a medication isn’t supposed to be taken with food, or your pet just keeps spitting it out. They don’t realize that this is medication that they need and unfortunately, you can’t explain it to them.

Let’s say your cat is on an anti-seizure medication like gabapentin, and it just refuses to take it down voluntarily. Start off by calmly approaching your cat. It can sense when you are nervous so just start out by picking it up and petting it calmly like there’s nothing out of the ordinary. It is often a good idea to wrap your cat up in a blanket so that just its little head is sticking out. This way they can’t claw at you or fight you.

Once you have your cat calm and wrapped up, you should get that pill in them as quickly as possible. Hold the pill with your thumb and index finger and use your other hand to gently place your thumb and index finger on the sides of its jaw hinge. Tilt its head back so that the jaw drops, and then quickly push down between the bottom canine teeth. Toss the pill in toward the back of the mouth and close its mouth. You will also want to gently rub or blow on your cat’s nose at this point. Believe it or not, this should stimulate the swallowing impulse.

Dogs are a little different of course. Let’s say you have to administer your dog’s dosage of an antibiotic like amoxicillin. First you are going to want to make sure that your dog’s hindquarters are backed up against a wall. That way they can’t try to squirm away from you.

Again, hold the pill between one thumb and index finger and use your other hand to grab around the top of their snout behind their upper canines. Tilt your dog’s head back and push down between the lower canines with a finger. Get the pill in there and then hold your pet’s mouth closed. Again, you can use the trick where you rub or blow on your dog’s nose to induce swallowing.

The most important thing to remember about administering medication to your pet is not how you do it, but what you do afterwards. Whether your pet immediately gobbles up their medication with a little slice of liverwurst or whether it takes twenty minutes of repeated attempts, it is imperative that you remember to reward them afterward.

Positive reinforcement is the most important way to get your pet to continue to take their medicine in the future. After they have taken their medication you should hug them, tell them what a good job they did, and even give them another treat. Give your pet as much love and affection as you can after they take their medication and they will eventually start to associate med time with happy things.

However you get your pet your medication, just remember that it is important to keep them on the prescribed schedule. You will both be happier and your pet will be healthier in the long run.

Entertaining guests at your home can cause your pet to react in different ways. They are not always used to noises, crowds, and smells from outside visitors. Whether you are hosting a cook-out or a small gathering in the living room, you are letting ‘strangers’ into your pet’s comfort zone. It is a great idea to avoid potential problems by respecting your pet’s perspective by giving him or her some space of their own.

Below are some tips to keep your animal happy while your home has visitors (provided by petsmart.com):

Provide activities or toys – have plenty of interesting toys to keep your pet busy. Dogs enjoy chewing on things, so buy a few chewable items to occupy your pet’s time.

Isolate your pet in a ‘safe place’ – put your pet in an isolated room with toys, water, and a bed or blanket to lie on. Prevent him or her from getting out and invading your gathering.

Keep your pet away from ‘people-food’ – cats should eat cat food, dogs should eat dog food, and people should eat people food. Human food can be very hazardous and dangerous for animals. No matter how good of a pet your animal is do not give them any of your food.

What do they do with dogs at places like Petsmart day care service?

We’re moving in a few days and we don’t want our dog to be in the way so my mom is gonna leave him at Petsmart for the day to get groomed and also to stay there until we’re done moving. But I’m a bit skeptical about it. I really hope they don’t just stick him in a crate for 8 hours and make him miserable, but my mom already made the appointment.

Answer
watching this video can answer most of your questions.

http://petshotel.petsmart.com/tour/index.shtml

I would also go there ahead of time and check it out in person. Looks like the dogs are allowed play time with the other dogs and they have a nice little room where they stay, not in a crate. They even have a special “relief” room.

About ten years ago Frontline Plus cats was introduced as a new way to treat fleas on cats in the United States. Thanks to this product you can actually remove the fleas from your cats in just twenty four to forty eight hours from when the treatment is applied. Basically this treatment works because it causes the fleas to be hyper stimulated which quickly ends their life cycle.

When this product is used you might find that there are not fleas that can survive the Frontline Plus cats so you are not going to have to worry about them any longer. In addition you will find that this is one of the treatments that is lower in cost then other treatment options that are available on the market. This is one of the most effective treatments that are available on today’s market.

There are two main ingredients in Frontline Plus cats that make it effective. One of these is adulticide which is the treatment that simulates the adult fleas and causes them to die more quickly. The other ingredient is methoprene and that is what kills the larvae and eggs.

One of the best features of Frontline Plus cats is that it actually kills all of the fleas, larvae, and eggs which does not happen with other flea treatments. Plus there are many different reports that claim that the treatment can also kill ticks. So this is a great and reliable medication for the treatment for the cats in all of the different ways.

Thanks to all of these features Frontline Plus cats is one of the most effective choices in treatment and one of the top choices that people choose more than others. This product is much more progressive then other products on the market. So you will notice that there are less fleas and fewer problems about fleas on the market.

There are new fleas being seen all of the time and they are constantly changing to be able to live through treatments but so far Frontline Plus cats is one treatment that no strain of flea can live through. This is also one of the treatment options that are available that veterinarians are also using on their own pets.

What should I do about a mud stain where I applied Frontline Plus?

I applied frontline plus to my dog earlier today. Now, where i applied it there is kind of a brown stain in his fur, i think from him getting into some dirt, but its only on the fur above where i applied the frontline. can i use water to remove the dirt or will that affect the performance of the frontline?

Answer
Just let it dry and brush it out tomorrow. Yes if you use water you may remove most of the flea treatment. Leave it alone for now.

Some cats enjoy traveling where others do not; it really depends on your cat’s personality. Traveling can either be and easy or difficult task when you have your cat in tow. There are different ways that you can travel and there are also different things that you need to consider with each mode of transportation.

Articleing your Air Travel

Traveling by plane can be quite tricky if your cat hates flying. You might have the option of having them on the plane with your or having to send them below into an air conditioned cargo area especially designed for pet travel. Some airlines allow you to take your cat along in a carrier that can fit below the seat in front of you. You need to specifically ask the airline if this is an option or not, plus you need to consider if your cat will fit into such a carrier.

If this practice is not allowed you will have to have your cat in a carrier and check them into the cargo area. If you plan on traveling with your cat you need to make your reservation far in advance and inform the airline that you will be traveling with a cat. You also have to make sure that your carrier fits the criteria of the airline. You might even be able to have your cat sedated for the flight time frame by your veterinarian to make travel a little easier.

Packing up the Car for a Trip

If you cat likes to go on car trips with you, then traveling a long distance by car is going to be a piece of cake. On the other hand if they detest it, it might not be the most enjoyable trip. Either way, you need to make sure that your cat is ready to travel with you. First, you definitely need a cat carrier when you are driving to help keep your cat safe and so you won’t become distracted while driving.

You also need to make sure you cat has their collar on with their identification tag on it. If you cat doesn’t like the car, you might want to try getting him used to it in advance by taking your cat out for short trips around the block or down the street. Before you leave on your trip, you need to make sure to pack your cat’s bag as well as your own.

You need to make sure that you have their bowls, food, medication, litter box, litter, cat bed, cat toys, and some sort of scratching post so he doesn’t tear up the room of wherever you are going. If you cat absolutely freaks out when you put him in the car, you might need to come up with another plan for your cat while you are away.

Not Brining Fluffy on the Trip

If you have the cat that freaks out whenever you try to travel by plane or by car, you will probably have to come up with a different plan. You can choose to leave your cat with friends, at home, or in a boarding place. Whatever you choose will probably depend largely on your cat and their attitudes and ability to adapt. A boarding place will allow you to leave your cat in a place where they will be taken care of.

Unfortunately not all pet boarding facilities are a great place to leave your pet, so you will have to do a lot of careful research before just dropping off your cat. A friend of family member might take in your cat so they can take care of all your cat’s needs while you are gone. You can also choose to leave your cat at home if you will only be gone a short time, or have a cat sitter stay at your home with your cat.

Don’t ask just anyone, make sure they can be trusted, and make sure to leave them with a list of things such as what food you feed, when you feed, when to clean the litter box, and any emergency numbers as well. For some, this might end up being the best option for their cat.

If you own a pet then you’ll be bound to have many pet health questions. These can range from a simple, ‘how do I know if my dog is ill?’ to a more complicated ‘what can I do for my molting spider?’ All these pet health questions and more can be answered by your vet, or even the nice people down at the pet store.

Another good source for you to use to ask these vital pet health questions is the internet. Here you can find online vet websites which can help you in answering most of your pet health questions. You can ask any questions that you need to know the answer to and be assured of getting a reliable answer.

You can even find kindred spirits who have gone through the same things that you’re going through now, with their own pets. These people might have found different ways of dealing with the same problem you have now, or perhaps they could tell you how to enhance your present method so that it works better. Whatever the case you can be assured of at least some help from this vast resource, and it’s one of the best places to find information on your many pet health questions.

Then again if you don’t like new fangled things and would rather do things the old fashioned way you can always go down to your veterinary clinic and find some answers to your pet health questions that way. The staff should all be able to help you and you should be able to get sound answers to all your pet health questions.

Then again another resource that you have is the library. This also works very well in your favor but you will need to find the correct reference section before you get anywhere. The information that you can gather at the library is vast and although it might be time consuming, you can get most of your pet health questions answered.

This is also a good place where you can check out some books on pet health which you want to buy. Afterwards it will be a simple matter for you to go to the bookstore and buy your reference guide to your pet health questions and keep it handy in your home.

If you’re a conscientious pet owner then most of the time you will be having a few pet health questions. This is good as it shows that you care for your pet and only want the best for it. So ask as many questions as you like to be able to take care of your pets better.

Can anyone recommend a good pet insurance for an elderly dog?

I have a 12 year old pomeranian, still in good health except some genetic pre-existing condition, but he has been treated for them and has not shown any signs of a recurrence for over a year. I’m pretty sure I want to but pet insurance, my question is any recommendations and anybody know about companies that will cover senior dogs or pre-existing conditions ?
Thanks

Answer
I would first try for the Care Credit card.. It is no-interest card to be used for veterinary care, and it allows up to 18 months to repay.. all of the vets in my state accept this card..
You can apply on-line, and know within minutes if you have been approved.. All it requires is a steady source of income.

http://carecredit.com/patients/whatis.htm

For veterinary care, go to this page, and click on “proffessions’, and scroll down to ‘veterinary’.

http://carecredit.com/providerloc/

Or, you can fill out the forms at your vet’s clinic.

How can I tell what size dog to use my frontline plus on?

I found this tube of frontline plus in my cupboard and dont know if it is for my smaller dog a pug or my large dog 75 pounds. I don’t have the box, just the tube inside of the foil cover.

Answer
lt might be better just to throw it away and buy some more, if you’ve not got the original packaging and it says nothing on the tube then it may be out of date.

Whether we have dogs, birds, fish, or cats, these are our friends and companions that we love having around. They are good company and can always put a smile on our face.

The only thing that stops us from having even more is the price. Pets can be very costly after you buy their food, toys, and pay for their vet bills. So, whenever we can save a buck or two, we want to make sure we take advantage of doing so. Listed below are three ways you can save money when shopping at PetSmart.

Sign up: When you visit their store next, they will usually ask if you have a pet perks card. If you don’t have one already, sign up for one! These are great because they allow you to save money by supplying you with coupons and they keep track of how much you spend and give you rewards for spending so much. Once you’re signed up, you will usually get e-mails to save money and even coupons in the mail.

Main website: Check out their main website and see if there are any coupons you can print. You may get lucky and find one you can use on your next purchase.

Online: Check coupon websites on the Internet. It is common for people to have several coupons that you can print out or coupon codes you can use. You can even check out websites like Ebay to help you save money!

PetSmart is a great store that offers a few different ways to save. We find that the best way to save is by using coupons. So, if you’re looking for some, consider these tips to finding them!

If you’re looking for PetSmart Printable Coupons as well as more of my work, check out FindCashBackCards.com.

How would I go about selling fish to petco or petsmart?

No, I don’t want to hear about animal cruelty etcetc, but I’ve been thinking about breeding bettas and selling them to petco/petsmart. Do I need to be an official breeder or something or do I just show up and sell them?

Answer
Petco and Petsmart, will usually take in unwanted fish, but not give much, if anything for them. Local fish stores will usually give 25% to 33%, but only in store credit. If you want to sell fish, you can post them on Craigslist. If you have something more expensive, try http://www.aquabid.com/.
